Nettuno Fountain

The fountain is located in the Unità d’Italia Square. It was built in the 16th century by the sculptor Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli. At first it was placed in a another position, with the back looking at the sea, which to some represent the importance of the sea for Messina, for others the statue turn its back to Calabria meaning disrespect to the Calabrian population…
